In recent years, there has been an intense movement in the field of educational cooperation, represented by the increase in the number of Chinese students coming to Emirati universities and Emirati students studying in China, and the increase in student exchange and faculty members in both countries. In the year 2019, a delegation from Zhejiang University visited the UAE University in order to activate the memorandum of understanding signed between the two universities in 2017. In the same year, a delegation from Dubai University visited a number of Chinese universities with the aim of strengthening scientific and academic cooperation. In another context, a number of Chinese and Emirati universities signed memoranda of understanding to enhance and develop cooperation in several areas, including student and faculty exchange, and to conduct joint research projects, organize scientific activities, hold conferences and cooperate in the fields of modern science. For example, the University of Sharjah signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Zhejiang (2019) with the aim of establishing the Silk Road Institute, which will have a headquarters at the aforementioned university. It also signed an agreement with Xi’an University (2016), and in 2019 a joint research cooperation agreement was concluded between Khalifa University of Science and Technology and the University of Qinghua, China, which is considered one of the most powerful universities in the world, and the United Arab Emirates University signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Zhejiang University (2017) and Qinghua University (2016).
